“The best thing for me in radio and in talk radio was working with a person I connected to,” Clough said.

“I watch and it doesn’t seem like the people on the show even like sports. They’re so mad about everything."

Now there’s a human element in this space because there’s more athletes getting involved with television, radio and podcasting. If [they] can believe in what they know and know what they believe in and give it to the audience, [fans] are going to love that player that they once loved.”

“It hasn’t sunk in,” said Hartung.  “I think when the ball gets kicked off at Arrowhead (Stadium), it will all become very real."

“I try to be a student of this so whatever my assignment is I immersed myself in it."

“I always thought I would be a baseball broadcaster,” said Burke. “That was always the idea when I was a kid just because that’s what I was around."

“I’m excited about it because this whole situation and this team and their makeup reminds me of the teams that I grew up rooting for in Indiana where it felt like it’s us against the world,” Grady said.

It’s easy for a journalist to get credit when they are right about something they write or say, but it’s always fun to go back and take a look at takes or predictions gone wrong.

“You always want to be someplace you’re wanted,” said Graca. “They let it be known that they wanted to bring me back home and after thinking about it, it seemed like it was a perfect fit.”

Over the years, Johnson was encouraged by his colleagues to do more in the industry while his bosses discouraged him from trying new things. In fact, in 2004, both a boss and a co-worker told him that he would scare white people if he started hosting, as there were no Black radio hosts that were not former athletes at that time.
