The report states that Warner Bros. Discovery was granted a chance to commit around $2.2 billion per year for a deal with the league but walked away because of disdain for “the price relative to the value of the package.”
During Disney’s quarterly earnings call on Tuesday, Iger stated that ESPN+ would continue to exist as its own service even after the launch of the network’s direct-to-consumer platform.
The ESPN platform, which is currently being referred to as “Project Flagship,” will be released in 2025 and include the full breadth of its media rights packages in addition to ESPN+, its current subscription-based streaming service.
