Spike Eskin Bemoans Being Stuck With WIP ‘B Team’

Date:

Spike Eskin isn’t just the program director of sports radio’s most iconic station. He also hosts a popular Philadelphia 76ers podcast called Rights To Ricky Sanchez. That is why Jon Richie and Joe DeCamara invited him to appear on WIP Wednesday morning to talk about the NBA playoffs.

There’s no doubt Eskin has been keeping an eye on his old station. He knew that being invited to appear on the show on Wednesday morning meant Angelo Cataldi would be out and he admitted that he had high hopes when producer Joe Wechter texted him.

“I thought to myself ‘Oh, tomorrow’s Wednesday, so maybe I’ll get to talk to Jason Kelce, Merrill Reese or Scott Franzke’ and then he was like ‘It’s Joe and Jon,’ And I was like ‘What the hell? I get the B team?’ Is it B team Wednesday? What the hell is this all about?”

Everyone in the room laughed, but DeCamara turned it around on Eskin.

“Listen, it is the B team and you put it together, so it’s all your fault,” he said.

Spike Eskin lead WIP for more than ten years before being selected last year to take over for Mark Chernoff leading WFAN in New York. In 2016, he hired Joe DeCamara away from 97.5 The Fanatic and paired him with Jon Ritchie for a new midday show.
