It marks the first time the 70-year-old will announce a complete playoff series since 2000. MLB Network has periodically aired a single game of a playoff series, allowing Costas to work in the postseason, but he will announce the entire series for TBS.

Costas told The Athletic’s Richard Deitsch announcing the entire series “allows you to get into a rhythm. It isn’t quite like playing, but it’s the closest thing to it. You remember every pitch. So if something happens in Game 3 and it somehow connects to some tension from Game 1, you’re on top of it in the way that a good local announcer would be.”

Costas will also serve as the studio host for TBS’ coverage of the American League Championship Series. Brian Anderson will serve as the play-by-play announcer for that series.
