Date:

77 WABC New York celebrated its annual “Back the Blue” initiative with several enforcement guests and host Bill O’Reilly whose grandfather worked for the New York City Police Department.

O’Reilly told Sid Rosenberg Thursday that his grandfather joined the NYPD after World War I.

“He came back and joined up, served honorably, the New York City Police Department was kind enough to give me his jacket and I have it on my wall in my house,” said O’Reilly. “So, we have a long history of understanding what the job of law enforcement is.”

In a release, WABC said the station supports men and women in blue who put their lives on the line daily to protect us. Law enforcement, locally and across the country, are under scrutiny and pressure and need YOU to take a stance!

The station honored law enforcement officials from different agencies throughout the day. Including former New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly and New Jersey Police Officer Lou Spagnola.

“Most of these police officers can make a lot more money doing other things but do the job knowing that they are putting their lives on the line,” added O’Reilly.
