Radio host Erick Erickson believes Newsmax is not being targeted and taken off DirecTV for its conservative views but rather for a more practical reason. In a video titled “Debunking the latest Conspiracy Theories” Erickson shared his opinion on the Newsmax/DirecTV controversy.
“Newsmax is not being taken off DirecTV because DirecTV is censoring conservatives,” said Erickson. “DirecTV is owned by AT&T although they are spinning it off. AT&T is one of the few organizations out there that refuse to stop giving money to Republicans after Jan 6th. AT&T is one of the more conservative companies out there.”
Erickson noted that AT&T is spinning off DirecTV because people are cord-cutting, and DirecTV is falling on hard times.
“DirecTV can’t give you internet like AT&T can and AT&T wants to divest itself of DirecTV, I am a DirecTV subscriber,” Erick Erickson revealed. “DirecTV is getting rid of Newsmax because Newsmax was giving DirecTV free content and if you’re a cable TV provider you want free content and now Newsmax has decided to stop its free content.”
Erickson added that Newsmax believes it has risen enough that it can now start charging companies for the content.
“Newsmax told DirecTV that you’re going to have to pay a subscriber fee,” he said. “You pay for the right to transmit Fox News, you are going to have to pay for the right to us and DirecTV said actually we are going to the first, the first isn’t going to charge us, and so, we’ll swap one conservative channel for another.”
Erick Erickson stated that Newsmax’s marketing ploy is its censorship of conservatives.
“In full disclosure Newsmax approached me about a marketing campaign on this program to promote where you can see Newsmax,” he said. “I was happy to take their money but was not happy to have them on my program to talk about how this was censorship of conservatives.”
