It sounds like Pat McAfee may have another big announcement in his future. On his show on Friday, he declared that he and his crew are “in the dead middle of Up to Something Season.”
McAfee also declared April of last year “Up to Something Season.” During that time, there were rumors that he was being sought after by Amazon to create an alternate broadcast for the company’s new Thursday Night Football coverage. Months later, we learned that McAfee had signed with ESPN to join College GameDay and agreed to a deal with Omaha Productions to create alternate broadcasts for ESPN’s Saturday night college football games.
Listeners should get used to these discussions on The Pat McAfee Show. The former NFL punter said that the show’s independence allows him to take more phone calls and discuss more new opportunities.
“There’s a lot of situations that just arise because we have no anything with anybody,” he said. “Really, it’s just us out here.”
McAfee says he has been on 8 hours worth of phone calls throughout the last week. He could not say exactly what the opportunity was, but he wants the audience to know that the show is growing and there are changes coming. He feels like his most loyal fans are owed that.
“I think it’s like a very important thing to know because you people are the reason it’s happening. People have been with us for 6 or 7 years, maybe even people that have followed my Twitter for the last 15 years. I feel very obligated to let people know what’s going on, when it’s happening, why it’s happening. I feel like I’m a very transparent person when it comes to stuff.”
Expectations are high for whatever the announcement may be. McAfee teased the impact it could have by saying it is hilarious he and his crew get this opportunity.
