After a revamp more than two years ago, NFL Live has been highly-regarded afternoon property for ESPN. NBA analyst JJ Redick wishes the network had a similar show for the NBA.
During a conference call with media members for the start of the NBA Playoffs, Redick was asked what changes he would make, if any, to ESPN’s NBA coverage.
The 15-year NBA veteran said that he sees many comparisons between NFL and NBA analysts, mentioning that Richard Jefferson is often compared to Tony Romo or Greg Olsen, but said the NBA broadcasts don’t allow for that type of analysis.
“A lot of what I think would be enriching, you frankly don’t have time for because the game moves too fast. You don’t have 25 to 30 seconds to talk between plays,” Redick said. “You don’t have 25 to 30 seconds to show replays. So, you get in what you can and that’s the difficulty and that’s the challenge and that’s what makes our producers and directors at ESPN so good is that they do do a good job of that. I wish we could do it more. I just don’t think you have time for it in our sport.”
Redick then argued that a daily program similar to NFL Live would be an avenue for analysts to speak about the game in a way they can’t during the actual games.
“I told Dave Roberts (ESPN’s NBA and WNBA Head of Production) this—I think we could do a better job. I love what they do on NFL Live,” admitted Redick. “Those guys do a great job of breaking down. If we could do more of that with our coverage, I think that would be great for the fan.”

Did they not tell him they have a daily NBA show. It sucks but. it is on. Also they need a better studio nba countdown is garbage. Greeny is a horrible host for that show. Also Wibon should not be on that show find a better host to pair with Stephen A and Jalen Rose
