Conservative radio host and The Daily Wire personality Matt Walsh released a documentary What is a Woman? in 2022. Now, three of the people interviewed claim they participated under false pretenses.
A report from NBC News showcases emails sent to the subjects that claim the project would “aim to educate the public by leaning into the insights of experts, professionals, and the real life experiences. Particular attention will be paid to the proper use of language and gender identity terminology.”
“I didn’t really know about Matt’s conservative credentials,” Dr. Marcis Bowers, a California surgeon said of Walsh. “They sugarcoated it just a little bit. They didn’t give me an indication of what it would really be about, but they did give me the title of the video.”
The documentary has garnered more than 187 million views on Twitter after Elon Musk claimed it was imperative for wide audiences to view the project. “Every parent should watch this,” Musk tweeted that time.
However, critics of the film have labeled the film as offensive, anti-trans, and spread myths like school children identifying as cats and using litter boxes at public schools.
“People see that gender ideology is toxic and insane. We have the numbers to fight back and destroy it. All we need is the will to do what’s necessary,” Walsh wrote in a tweet promoting the film.
It is not the first time Walsh has faced criticism for his practices in getting experts to agree to appear in the documentary. A report from February 2022 claimed Walsh and his producers created a fake organization called the Gender Unity Project in hopes of recruiting people to appear in the film.
