Date:

The USWNT exit from the 2023 Women’s World Cup was a disappointing one for American soccer fans. It also saw a slight dip in viewership on FOX.

An average of 2.52 million viewers tuned into the Round of 16 loss to Sweden that ended the American hopes of becoming the first nation to ever win the event three consecutive times.

Fox Sports reports that the match peaked at just over 4 million viewers during the penalty kick portion of the contest that sent the team home.

The top available markets were Washington D.C., Austin, Baltimore, Detroit, and West Palm.

While averaging 2.52 million viewers, that figure is a drop of 21% compared to the USWNT’s Round of 16 win over Spain in the 2019 event.

However, the UWSNT loss on Sunday began at 5:00 AM ET. In comparison, the 2019 victory over Spain began at 11:39 AM ET.

While the Round of 16 saw a dip compared to 2019, Fox Sports still saw a gain of 2% in average viewers for the first four matches of the 2023 edition.
