“I’ve made the difficult decision to leave KXnO after 15 years,” wrote Downs. “I’ll be forever grateful for the people I worked with and those who listened.”

Downs has served as the station’s Program Director since 2016. He originally joined the station in 2008 as a Producer. He has continued to serve in that producer role for the station’s midday show featuring Keith Murphy and Andy Fales.

During a round of layoffs in 2020, Fales and Murphy were axed by iHeartMedia. However, due to advertiser and community pushback, the pair were re-instated. Ultimately, the station received an FM signal on 106.3 FM in addition to its 1460 AM signal due to the strong reaction from the Des Moines community.

  1. Murph and Andy was one of the 2 shows that would have survived the layoffs. But Downs was fired. Murph and Andy boycotted their show until the firing was undone. Facts matter.
