A controversial penalty negated a Kansas City Chiefs comeback victory Sunday, and the reaction to both the call and the actions of quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been a hot topic on sports radio. WGR 550 morning host Jeremy White believes he knows who is to blame for all the talk about officiating.
After comments from Monday Night Football analyst Troy Aikman went viral, White argued that the NFL’s TV partners — Amazon Prime Video, ESPN/ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX — are to blame.
“The reason (officials) have been talked bout every week is because the NFL and its broadcast partners have completely normalized having rules officials as a full feature of the broadcast. Rules discussions are way up, and it’s the league/networks fault,” White wrote in a post to X.
He later argued “Officiating is not worse. It’s the same. It’s always the same.”
Jeremy White was responding to the remarks from Aikman, who alleged NFL officiating has been front and center recently for all the wrong reasons.
“They’ve been talked about every week,” Aikman said of the officials. “But this is ridiculous what we’re watching right now.”
