The Sporting Tribune has announced it will launch a nightly sports talk show, The Sporting Tribune Today. The show will be hosted by former ESPN senior writer Arash Markazi and will air on KIRN 670 AM and 95.5 FM HD3 in Los Angeles. The company also announced a new UCLA podcast, Westwood Open House, which will be hosted by former UCLA football player Donovan Carter, who starred in the HBO show, Ballers.
The radio show will be 670 AM’s first English language sports talk show in 25 years. Previously, the station had a long sports talk history, simulcasting XTRA Sports 690, which was the first all-sports radio station on the West Coast. In 1999, KIRN-AM became Radio Iran. Markazi was an intern at both XTRA Sports and Radio Iran and now returns to host a nightly show.
“This is an incredible full-circle moment for me when I think back to my days as an intern, screening calls and going for food runs, at XTRA Sports and Radio Iran,” Markazi said in a release. “I dreamed of working in sports media as a young Iranian-American kid growing up in Los Angeles and to now host a show on the station that gave me my first opportunity is a dream come true. It’s great to be back home on the air at 670 AM.”
The UCLA podcast, Westwood Open House will be by Carter, who played at UCLA from 2008- 2012, along with The Sporting Tribune’s Anthony Nguyen, who will be covering UCLA this season. “I’m excited for the podcast and I can’t wait for the UCLA fans to hear, see and support the show,” said Carter about the show and joining The Sporting Tribune. “This will not be a vanilla podcast; this is a place where the coaches and players can come on, let loose, and just have fun.”
Both shows are scheduled to launch on August 13.
