Seattle Mariners fans can now root for the trident on the go with the new ROOT SPORTS Stream app, which was announced earlier today by the network. This new direct-to-consumer app provides television broadcasts of the Mariners, along with other related content, with no blackouts and no cable or satellite subscription required.
According to a statement published on Friday, fans who already have ROOT SPORTS through their current cable, satellite, or streaming provider will have access to the new DTC app for free. This ensures that existing subscribers can seamlessly enjoy Mariners coverage without additional costs.
“Our goal is to connect fans to Mariners baseball in as many ways as possible,” said Kevin Martinez, Seattle Mariners president of business operations. “The new ROOT SPORTS Stream app is an excellent complement to the existing, valuable partnerships ROOT SPORTS has with TV providers to bring Mariners baseball to all fans in the Pacific Northwest.”
With the launch of the ROOT SPORTS Stream app, baseball fans will have the ability to watch Mariners games and content across the entire television territory of the network. In other words, fans residing within the Mariners’ television territory as designated by MLB—including Washington, Oregon, Montana, Alaska, and portions of Idaho—will also gain access to coverage through this new DTC platform.
“We know fans are eagerly anticipating Mariners Opening Day, and we are thrilled to offer them another way to access ROOT SPORTS,” stated Sabrina Taylor, Vice President of Affiliate & RSN Operations at ROOT SPORTS. “ROOT SPORTS Stream includes new features and a refreshed interface that will appeal to both existing TV Everywhere users as well as new direct-to-consumer subscribers.”
ROOT SPORTS is a network owned by the Mariners, with its headquarters located in nearby Bellevue, Washington. The team originally acquired a controlling interest in the network in 2013 as part of a long-term extension of its contract with the network through 2030.
For those in the Mariners’ television territory, the ROOT SPORTS app will be available for $19.99 per month with no long-term commitment required from the consumer.
