103.7 Q-Country in Ithaca, New York‘s morning host and Operation Manager, Chris Allinger, announced his retirement on air this morning.

Allinger, who has spent his entire 35-year career at Q-Country, hinted that the show would be “winding down” at the end of August.

He said, “Sleeping a little bit later than 3:15 in the morning. That the first plan.”

Adding, “It has been the greatest joy to wake up with you for 35 years now. I didn’t have gray hair back then. I didn’t have backache back then. I could walk a little straighter, too. The more I think about it, where did 35 years go?”

Allinger is known for several local charitable causes, including the Food Bank of the Southern Tier.

Reporting from RadioOnline included words of praise from Cayuga Media Group President Chet Osadchey, who said, “He is truly one of the kindest and most authentic people I have ever worked with.
