Jason Goff: Dan Bernstein Just Had ‘A Bad Moment’

“I'll say this, man, nobody died,”

Date:

It’s been a week since 670 The Score officially parted ways with host Dan Bernstein following an incident on social media. The situation unfolded when Bernstein engaged in a heated back-and-forth with a follower on X after posting a picture of a fish he caught. Ultimately, The Score host escalated the exchange by threatening the follower to a fight and potentially doxxing the individual.

In the aftermath of the incident, Bernstein was off the air for a full week. Then, last Friday, Mitch Rosen, the vice president and brand manager of 670 The Score, officially announced the separation on air.

Meanwhile, Jason Goff—host of The Full Go Podcast and studio host for Chicago Sports Network’s Chicago Bulls coverage—shared his perspective on the situation. Notably, Goff once worked alongside Bernstein as a producer when he co-hosted the Boers & Bernstein program on 670 The Score. On the latest edition of his podcast, Goff reflected on Bernstein’s dismissal.

“I’ll say this, man, nobody died,” said Goff. “Dan Bernstein is one of the smarter, more engaging, thought-provoking, erudite—just all-around, like, one of the best to ever do what we do. But also, Dan Bernstein has flown close to the sun several times in his career, as this job will have you do. As this thing that we are a part of sometimes will have you do. This time, he got burned.”

Looking back, Goff’s final producing position with 670 The Score before leaving in 2012 for Atlanta’s 92.9 The Game was as a producer on Boers & Bernstein for seven years. During that time, he credits his collaboration with former producer Matt Abbatacola as a key factor in elevating the program to new heights. Later, Goff returned to 670 The Score in 2015 to co-host alongside Bernstein. However, he was cut from the station’s lineup in March of 2018.

Although he has not yet spoken to Bernstein privately since his dismissal, Goff admitted he has been stunned by the reaction he’s seen online.

“I trust that Dan is OK. Like, I’ve seen all-out eulogies about this man’s career,” stated Goff. “Dan Bernstein is going to mess around and find himself on a podcast somewhere or do whatever the hell he wants to do with the rest of his career—if he even wants to jump back in the game. I don’t see it as this injustice, and this is a far cry from what the business should be. Man, stop it.”

Furthermore, Goff emphasized that Bernstein has been a giant in Chicago radio for a long time. He even recalled listening to a young Dan Bernstein in his early years at the station when he was hosting a weekend program.

“It sucks to see somebody go down for that,” said Goff, referencing the social media incident that led to Bernstein’s departure. “He had a bad moment, and those bad moments had added up to him losing his gig.”

In conclusion, Goff wrapped up the segment by wishing Bernstein well as the longtime Score voice moves on from the station.

  1. Oh please, Bernstein has been flying near the sun for decades now. I’ll go back to the Tournament of Bad he and Boers used to play on air and have different categories for Fans…one of them was “Ron Santo’s Legs”….Ron had had his legs amputated due to complications from Diabetes. It wasnt funny—Rons family begged them to stop it, Chicago Tribune Sports Writer Ed Sherman wrote a column about it, asking them to stop, for the family’s sake. Instead Dan And Boers Doubled Down—I hope that wasnt you producing that garbage Goff, probably was your mentor Abbatacola–like this is really cool to do another human being and their family…Wasnt funny in the least, but to those two it was Gold. Showed me how heartless those two truly are inside. Then the other incidents came fast and furious…Dan’s mistake was tying Politics into his show, his commentary and on X….clearly afflicted with TDS and, his words hatred towards “Crusty Old White Guys”…Thats what did him in on X, arguing with an old Crusty white guy who lists on his X account as being Christian and Conservative—right in the cross hairs of a Bernstein Hate Target. And Hate he did—where it just reads as juvenile, threatening, fake tough guy talk and stupid as it gets. Thats what did Mr smartest guy in the room in—stupid talk about a fish from an older White Crusty Christian Conservative…..Get help Dan–and not the “phone a friend” stuff you personally say you use and push or pushed on The SCORE BetterHelp its called…no bro, you need the kind of regrounding help available only through Residential kind of Treatment–otherwise keep going through Life making fun of Diabetics (strange as Dans first child was born with diabetes), minority female sportscasters just starting out in the Industry, etc…..no sympathy for Dan, he’s a Trust Fund baby, his dad was a bigtime partner for a very rich law firm, and the salary he and the money his wife pulls in from the wedding business—hes just fine if he never works again…Get Help Dan–and Go Fishing bro like forever.

  2. This guy must have dirt on all of these people who have defended him he threatened a guy and his kids he is not the victim he has been this way for years.

  3. If not for the fact that Bernstein mentioned the guy’s kids, then I’d agree. However, he brought up the kids. Not cool. So, troll or not, the man was well within his bounds to bring this to the attention of Mitch Rosen.
