After more than 30 years at 840 WHAS, morning host Tony Cruise has announced his intentions to retire from the iHeartMedia Louisville news/talk station.
Cruise has revealed he’ll depart Kenutckiana’s Morning News at the end of May, ending his long run with the station in the process.
“I’ve been really blessed to be here for 32 and a half years, and I will be retiring here at the end of May,” Cruise said in his on-air announcement. “I want to thank the audience that has put up with me here throughout my years at NewsRadio 840 WHAS. For my informed or uninformed opinions, takes, and sometimes stupid questions. You’ve all put up with it. I really do appreciate it. So it’s weird using the term retirement, because you never think that this day is going to come.”
Tony Cruise joined 840 WHAS in 1992 after previously working at other stations in Kentucky like WEKY in Richmond and WXLN in Lexington.
In his announcement, Cruise said it had long been his dream to join the venerable news/talk station in Louisville while working in other locales. He thanked dozens of colleagues, station management, and program directors he worked with and under in his retirement announcement.
840 WHAS has yet to announce plans on replacing Tony Cruise in the 5-9 AM daypart.
