The 101.9 The Mix, Chicago staff joined listeners for its annual Chicago River Day. Joining forces with Friends of the Chicago River, the group helped to restore local wildlife habitats and keep the river clean ahead of summer.
Led by the 101.9 The Mix morning team of Chris Petlak, Nikki, and Whip, the team invited listeners to LaBagh Woods. There, they worked to remove litter and invasive plant species, supporting vital restoration efforts along the banks of the Chicago River.
Chris Eagan, MIX/Throwback 100.3 Vice President of Brand and Content, said, “We’re proud to be part of this meaningful initiative, where the strength of local radio — along with our incredible team and passionate listeners — comes together to create real impact in our community.”
Margaret Frisbie, executive director of Friends of the Chicago River, said, “Chicago River Day is one of the most effective community service days of the year, and our partnership with The Mix significantly enhanced our reach and impact. With support from The Mix, we expanded litter cleanup and restoration efforts to 92 sites along the 156-mile Chicago-Calumet River system and engaged more than 2,700 volunteers, making this the biggest Chicago River Day ever since we established it 33 years ago.”
