840 WHAS Tabs Nick Coffey to Replace Tony Cruise as Kentuckiana’s Morning News Host

"To say I’m grateful would be a massive understatement. I’m so honored to be joining a legendary station with a legendary team."

Date:

As Tony Cruise gets set to depart 840 WHAS, Kentuckiana’s Morning News will have a new host. Nick Coffey will move to the chair held by Cruise for decades.

Coffey is no stranger to the Louisville radio scene. He’s worked as a sports talk radio host at iHeartMedia Louisville sister station, Sports Talk 790 AM, for the past decade. He currently hosts Coffey & Company in afternoon drive on the station.

Last week, 840 WHAS made the announcement that Coffey will be Cruise’s replacement.

“To say I’m grateful would be a massive understatement,” Coffey shared on social media. “I’m so honored to be joining a legendary station with a legendary team.”

“I’m well aware of what the opportunity is,” Coffey added in his on-air announcement. “The history of the tradition, the legendary and talented broadcasters that have worked on that station, and many of them are still there. So I’m honored. It still kind of doesn’t seem real.

“The only scenario where I would ever walk away from this would be for the opportunity that I’ve that I’ve been given,” Coffey said of his move to WHAS. “I’d be foolish not to take advantage of it, and I’d also be foolish not to give it everything I have to make sure that it doesn’t fall apart. It’ll be a challenge for me. It’ll be certainly different than what this is, but I’m so energized and motivated to make it work.”

In April, Tony Cruise announced that he would depart the Louisville news/talk station after more than 30 years at the outlet. Cruise joined 840 WHAS in 1992 after previously working at other stations in Kentucky like WEKY in Richmond and WXLN in Lexington. He’ll conclude his run as Kentuckiana’s Morning News host next week.

Nick Coffey will take over the program beginning on Monday, June 2nd.
