John Brenkus, the co-creator and host of the six-time Emmy award-winning series Sport Science, has passed away at the age of 54. Brenkus anchored the show over its years airing on Fox Sports Net and ESPN, and he had started a new version of the program on the Brinx.TV platform he founded.
Throughout episodes of the show, Brenkus would assimilate elements of physics, engineering and science to explain sports phenomena and athletic feats. The news of Brenkus’ passing appeared on his social media profiles on Sunday night.
“It is with profound sadness that we share the news that John Brenkus has passed away,” the post read. “John, co-founder of BAsE PRoductions, founder of Brinx.TV and co-creator and host of the 6-time Emmy Award-winning ‘Sport Science,’ had been battling depression. John lost his fight with this terrible illness on May 31st, 2025. His heartbroken family and friends request privacy at this time, and encourage anyone who is struggling with depression to seek help.”
Brenkus has previously discussed his battle with depression, sharing a story with Marcellus Wiley two years ago where he spoke about trying to commit suicide but being saved by his dog. In recent years, he had been creating content for Brinx.TV and also had worked with Hall of Fame Village Media for a series called The GOAT Code.
Brenkus had also taken part in Soul and Science segments on NFL Network, and during that same year, hosted episodes of The Brink of Midnight Podcast. In addition, he also wrote a New York Times bestselling book titled “The Perfection Point: Sport Science Predicts the Fastest Man, the Highest Jump, and the Limits of Athletic Performance.”
