FOX Sports will be celebrating one year remaining in the countdown to the beginning of the FIFA World Cup 26 taking place in Canada, the United States and Mexico with special activations and programming. The company will broadcast the tournament for the third time, and the anticipation is starting with the FIFA World Cup 26: One Year to Go special airing on FOX from South Beach in Miami, Fla. on Friday, June 13 starting at 8 p.m. EST/PST. The program will feature FOX Sports broadcasters Charissa Thompson, Alexi Lalas, Stu Holden and Tom Rinaldi presenting a celebration from the locale that will consist of interviews with FIFA dignitaries, an exclusive interview with USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino and musical performances.
In addition to the prime time special, the FS1 studio program First Things First will be back on the road for the second time in less than a month for a live edition of the show airing from South Beach at 3 p.m. EST. Nick Wright, Chris Broussard and Kevin Wildes will be presenting their insights and expertise surrounding the latest sports news and information. Last month, the show originated from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway ahead of FOX Sports airing the Indianapolis 500 for the first time.
“We couldn’t be more excited for FOX Sports to present the single biggest sporting event in history taking place in our own backyard next summer with the FIFA World Cup 26,” Eric Shanks, chief executive officer and executive producer at FOX Sports, said in a statement. “With one year to go, this will be our largest production ever on a massive scale and we look forward to showcasing the greatest teams in soccer and all of their captivating storylines with this highly anticipated global tournament.”
FOX Sports has also revealed a new promotion that will air across FOX Sports networks and other affiliated properties on linear and digital television. A special bug will appear on-screen throughout the day on the FOX Sports networks as well, and there is also creative signage being projected on the Godzilla Board in Times Square. The company is also engaging in community efforts, teaming with SCORES Network and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles, respectively, for various initiatives.
