Monumental Sports & Entertainment is bringing in a seasoned financial leader to guide its next chapter of growth. The company announced Tuesday that Steven Miller will join as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer effective October 2, 2025.
Miller, who most recently served as CFO and Treasurer of Warby Parker, will report directly to MSE Founder, Chairman, Managing Partner, and CEO Ted Leonsis. He will oversee all aspects of the company’s finance organization, including real estate, controllership, planning and analysis, tax, and treasury. Miller will also play a role in corporate development as the company expands its sports and media-entertainment footprint.
“Steve brings exceptional financial and capital markets experience. Having worked with one of the most recognized consumer retail brands, and possesses a strong corporate fundraising and IPO background,” Leonsis said in a statement. “As a highly regarded corporate finance leader, Steve’s wealth of executive leadership experience in operational roles makes him the perfect addition to Monumental’s senior leadership team.”
Miller’s track record is significant. He joined Warby Parker in 2011 and became the financial architect of its growth, spearheading fundraising efforts. Ultimately guiding the company’s direct listing on the New York Stock Exchange in 2021. His ability to navigate capital markets while scaling a consumer-facing brand drew attention within the industry. Making him an attractive candidate for a high-profile sports and media enterprise.
“I am thrilled and deeply honored to step into this role at a defining time for Monumental and the entire sports and media-entertainment industry,” Miller said. “I am excited to work closely with Ted, Zach, and the Monumental executive team in leading this company, and driving value for our employees, fans, investors, and communities.”
The move signals Monumental’s continued emphasis on transformation, operational efficiency, and disciplined financial strategy. For a company that owns the NBA’s Washington Wizards, NHL’s Washington Capitals, and WNBA’s Washington Mystics, along with stakes in media networks and esports. The hire represents a commitment to long-term value creation across its diverse portfolio.
Miller’s career also includes senior financial and strategy roles with Majestic Research, Comerica Bank, and Monitor Company. He serves as a board trustee of the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum and is involved with nonprofits such as the Ubuntu Education Fund in South Africa.
Zach Leonsis, MSE’s President of Media & New Enterprises, noted that Miller’s mix of financial acumen and strategic vision is well aligned with the company’s ambitions. “His leadership will serve our company, investors, stakeholders and fans exceedingly well. As we continue to navigate the transformational shifts in the media-entertainment industry,” he said.
Peter Biché, who had been serving in the CFO role, will remain with the organization as Senior Advisor during the transition. MSE retained Heidrick & Struggles to lead the executive search.
