Scripps Sports Becomes Domestic Broadcast Partner For Athlos NYC 2025 Event

"They’ve been tireless supporters of women’s sports for years, and we’re proud to have ATHLOS land alongside their WNBA and NWSL programming"

Date:

ATHLOS announced Tuesday that ION will serve as the domestic linear broadcast partner for this year’s Athlos NYC, returning October 10 at Icahn Stadium. The deal marks the beginning of a multi-year partnership with Scripps Sports that positions the women’s-only track and field event alongside ION’s growing slate of women’s sports programming.

The agreement will deliver live coverage of Athlos NYC and include a pre-event show, Icons on ION, leading into the 7 p.m. broadcast. Range Sports and Seven Seven Six, the investment firm founded by Alexis Ohanian, worked to secure rights and distribution.

“We are thrilled to team up with ION as our broadcast partner for Athlos NYC,” Ohanian said. “They’ve been tireless supporters of women’s sports for years. We’re proud to have ATHLOS land alongside their WNBA and NWSL programming.”

For Scripps Sports, the partnership underscores a broader strategy to showcase women’s sports in primetime settings. “ATHLOS showcases remarkable athletes while building culture and community,” said Brian Lawlor, president of Scripps Sports. “We look forward to bringing ATHLOS and its events to fans nationwide as we strengthen our commitment to elevating women’s athletics in premium, live environments on ION.”

The 2025 edition of Athlos NYC has already secured a star-studded lineup of competitors. Faith Kipyegon, Keely Hodgkinson, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, Masai Russell, Marileidy Paulino and Brittany Brown headline the track events. While Tara Davis-Woodhall, Jasmine Moore, Monae’ Nichols and Quanesha Burks will anchor the long jump. This year also marks the introduction of ATHLOS’ first-ever field competition. Qualifying rounds taking place in Times Square on Oct. 9.

The move comes as Scripps Sports continues to expand its women’s portfolio. In addition to the WNBA and NWSL, ION will air the inaugural SI Women’s Games this fall in partnership with Sports Illustrated. The six-day, multi-sport event will feature top athletes from across seven disciplines. The Elevance Health Women’s Fort Myers Tip-Off, a premier early season college basketball showcase, will also return to ION later this year.

ION’s broad distribution footprint remains a key advantage for properties like ATHLOS. The network is available in more than 128 million homes via pay TV, connected TV, free ad-supported streaming services and over-the-air broadcasts. Similar to last year, Athlos NYC will also stream live on X and YouTube. With additional platforms expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
