Justin Hammons is returning to daily radio duties in South Dakota after parting ways last year with Trending Media’s KXIA in Marshalltown, Iowa.
Haugo Broadcasting has hired Hammons for a dual on-air role in Rapid City, placing the veteran broadcaster in afternoon drive on KICK 104 while also assigning him to middays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on sister station Hits 102.7.
The move marks Hammons’ first full-time position since exiting KXIA in 2025.
Hammons confirmed the hire and expressed enthusiasm about stepping into a new market to Country Aircheck. He credited Operations Manager Sarah McCormick and General Manager Ted Peiffer for extending the opportunity and said he is eager to contribute to both brands as they continue competing for audience share in the region.
He is scheduled to begin in the building March 9.
The Rapid City cluster gives Hammons exposure to two distinct formats. KIQK operates as a Country outlet serving the Black Hills area, while KXMZ targets Hot AC listeners with a contemporary mix aimed at adult women.
By placing Hammons on both signals, Haugo gains a versatile on-air presence capable of adapting tone and presentation to different demographics while maintaining a consistent personality across the group.
Before landing in Rapid City, Hammons spent just over two years with Trending Media at KXIA-FM, where he held multiple responsibilities including Assistant Program Director, Promotions Director and morning co-host.
Previous radio stops for Hammons include Columbia, MO; San Angelo, TX; Lake Ozarks, MO; Manhattan, KS; and St. Joseph, MO.
