NewsNation has announced it will simulcast Nexstar Media Group’s coverage of the California Governor’s Debate later this month.
On Wednesday, April 22nd, NewsNation will broadcast Debate Night in California: The Race for Governor from 10-11 PM ET.
“We are proud to bring this important debate to the audiences of our national networks, ensuring that conversations shaping the future of California are accessible to viewers across the country,” said Nexstar Television Networks President Sean Compton. “Serving local communities is central to Nexstar’s mission, and we are honored to play a role in informing the electorate and supporting the democratic process.”
Leading up to the coverage, Chris Cuomo will host a special edition of his primetime program at 8 PM ET. On Balance with Leland Vittert will air live from San Francisco at 9 PM ET in advance of the debate. Katie Pavlich will host a special edition of her program at 11 PM ET, preempting Jesse Weber Live for that evening.
The debate is set to be broadcast from the KRON4 studios in San Francisco. It is scheduled to air on KTLA5 (Los Angeles), KSWB/KUSI (San Diego), KTXL (Sacramento), KGET (Bakersfield), and KSEE (Fresno).
Additionally, the debate will also be streamed live on The Hill. An encore presentation is set for 2 AM ET on NewsNation.
Candidates who have compiled at least 5% in Nexstar’s statewide poll will participate, including Republicans Chad Biano and Steve Hilton, as well as Democrats Katie Porter and Tom Steyer. The news of the debate comes after Democratic candidate Eric Swalwell announced he is suspending his campaign. Several women have accused him of sexual impropriety.
