CNN is promoting Brian Abel. He’ll now be an anchor and correspondent for the network.
What We Know: Previously, Abel had served as a correspondent for CNN Newsource. He was based in Washington, D.C., reporting for the 1,000 affiliate partners the network features. Before joining CNN, he worked in local television at stations in Detroit, Kansas City, Fargo, and Grand Forks. As part of his new duties with the network, he’ll be based in Atlanta.
What’s At Stake: It’s another elevation for Abel, who has continuously worked his way up through the ranks. His appointment to this new role marks another step forward in his career journey.
What Remains Unclear: When and where Abel will contribute to the network at the anchor desk. It was noted that he’ll appear across CNN and CNN Headlines, the network’s FAST channel.
What It Means: As CNN continues to invest in its digital offerings, it will need versatile talents like Brian Abel to work in a variety of spaces. Utilizing him as both an anchor and a correspondent makes him accessible for all of its planned expansions.
