Warner Music Group Unveils Major Recorded Music Leadership Shakeup

"WMG has not detailed how Blavatnik's corporate development role will shape future deals"

Date:

Warner Music Group is reshuffling its recorded music leadership. Five executives are taking on new or expanded roles.

What We Know: Val Blavatnik joins as Managing Director, Warner Music North America, UK & Corporate Development. Meanwhile, Alejandro Duque becomes President, Warner Music International, adding the APAC and EMEA regions. Additionally, Elliot Grainge now chairs ADA in the U.S., with Zach Friedman as Vice Chairman. Finally, Aaron Bay-Schuck becomes sole Chairman & CEO of Warner Records Group.

What’s at Stake: Simon Robson will step down as President, EMEA, Recorded Music in December after nearly 30 years. As a result, Guillermo Gonzalez becomes President, Warner Music EMEA, after six years driving growth at Warner Music Iberia. Andrés Rothschild, in turn, takes over as President of Warner Music Iberia. Moreover, Duque quadrupled Warner Music Latin America’s frontline US Latin market share during his five-year tenure.

What Remains Unclear: WMG has not detailed how Blavatnik’s corporate development role will shape future deals. Similarly, the company has not said how ADA might evolve under Grainge, beyond remaining a standalone business for independents. It is also unclear where Robson will land next. Nor has WMG outlined any changes to label rosters or staffing.

What It Means: Ultimately, WMG is concentrating authority among executives with proven growth records. Consequently, fewer leaders now oversee larger territories and businesses. For radio programmers, that could mean clearer lines of communication on priority releases. Still, the real impact will depend on how quickly these leaders execute.
