TNT Sports has signed Anson Carter to a multiyear contract renewal. As a result, the former NHL forward will remain a studio analyst on NHL on TNT.
What We Know: Carter has been a mainstay on NHL on TNT since its opening season. Before that, he spent 11 seasons in the NHL, most notably with the Boston Bruins and Edmonton Oilers. After retiring, he joined NBC Sports as an on-air analyst in 2013. There, he covered both the NHL regular season and the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Carter has also served as co-chair of the NHL Player Inclusion Coalition. In that role, he has become a leading voice for diversifying hockey and accelerating inclusion efforts.
What’s At Stake: The 2026-27 NHL on TNT regular season schedule will showcase many of the League’s biggest stars, top teams and most storied rivalries throughout the season, highlighted by the annual Thanksgiving Showdown, classic Original Six matchups, regular Tuesday and Wednesday night telecasts and an extensive slate of Sunday games during the second half of the season. The season will culminate with TNT Sports’ presentation of the 2027 Stanley Cup Playoffs, including exclusive coverage of the 2027 Stanley Cup Final across TNT Sports’ platforms. Carter, alongside Wayne Gretzky, Paul Bissonnette, Henrik Lundqvist and Liam McHugh, will provide coverage leading into all broadcasts on the network.
What Remains Unclear: However, TNT Sports did not disclose the length or financial terms of the new deal. Likewise, the release did not say whether Carter’s responsibilities will change.
What It Means: Ultimately, the renewal keeps a familiar voice at the center of TNT’s hockey coverage. Moreover, Carter brings a rare mix of NHL playing experience and multi-network broadcast versatility. His inclusion work also gives TNT an analyst whose influence reaches beyond the studio desk. Consequently, the network secures continuity for its NHL coverage.
