iHeartMedia Chicago is bringing back its Sista Strut Pink Celebration for a ninth year. Seven stations will unite for the 3K breast cancer walk on Saturday, October 3.
What We Know: The free walk starts at 10 a.m. at the Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Community Center. Proceeds benefit Sisters Network Chicago, Inc., a Black breast cancer survivorship organization. Additionally, WGCI, V103, Inspiration 1390, 103.5 KISS FM, 93.9 LITE FM, Rock 95.5, and BIN 640 are all on board. Your Local Ford Dealers present the event, while ABC7 Chicago serves as the exclusive TV partner.
What They Said: Kashon Powell, iHeartMedia Chicago’s VP of Programming, called the event “a powerful tradition throughout the Chicagoland community.” Moreover, Powell said the company is “honored to partner with Sisters Network Chicago” on early detection and treatment access. Similarly, Sisters Network Chicago President Annie Jones said the walk has grown into “a powerful movement.” “We honor the strength and resilience of survivors, remember those we’ve lost,” Jones added.
What Remains Unclear: However, the release did not share a fundraising goal for this year’s walk. Likewise, organizers have not disclosed attendance or dollars raised in prior years. The sponsor giveaways and family entertainment lineup also remain under wraps. Finally, it’s unclear how much airtime each station will give the walk before Saturday.
What It Means: Ultimately, the Sista Strut shows what local radio does best when a cluster rallies around one cause. Hosts Carla Ferrell, Bioncé Foxx, Sonya Blakey, and KeKe Hampton bring talent from across the building. Meanwhile, seven stations spanning hip-hop, gospel, rock, and news share a single stage. As a result, a nine-year tradition keeps turning listener loyalty into real community impact.
