All Things Considered Host Mary Louise Kelly Stepping Down

"NPR remains a place where I can do the kind of work I came to journalism to do. Now, on to the next adventure.”

Date:

Mary Louise Kelly is leaving All Things Considered and Sources & Methods after 25 years with NPR. She’ll remain with the network while stepping away from both hosting roles.

What We Know: Kelly announced her departure from the two programs Friday after a quarter-century with NPR. She took over All Things Considered in 2018 after longtime host Robert Siegel stepped away. Meanwhile, Kelly launched her national security podcast, Sources & Methods, in August 2025. Kelly said she’ll continue contributing interviews for NPR after leaving both programs. However, the network has not yet announced who will replace her on either show.

What They Said: “25 years since I first set foot in this newsroom! I’ll continue to contribute interviews; NPR remains a place where I can do the kind of work I came to journalism to do. Now, on to the next adventure.” -Mary Louise Kelly

What Remains Unclear: NPR has yet to detail Kelly’s next role within the network or announce permanent replacements for her two hosting positions. Additionally, it’s unclear whether Sources & Methods will continue with a new host following Kelly’s departure.

What It Means: Kelly’s exit marks a significant change for All Things Considered, where she has served as a host since 2018. Still, her continued presence at NPR means the network won’t be losing her journalism entirely. Instead, Kelly plans to remain involved through interviews and other work while moving into her next chapter with NPR.
