1270 The Patriot Ends in Buffalo With Format Flip as US Country Debuts

Radio One Buffalo has enlisted Ken Johnson as a special advisor.

Date:

1270 The Patriot is ending its run in Buffalo as Radio One Buffalo shifts the station to country music. The new US Country format will air on 93.3 FM, 95.1 FM, and 1270 AM.

What We Know: US Country will feature country music from the 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s. The station will broadcast across three frequencies, following 1270 The Patriot’s launch in June 2025. Buddy Shula’s Radio One Buffalo purchased the previously silent AM signal from Cumulus Media before adding two FM translators. Now, the company is moving away from its talk format and returning the frequencies to music programming. Additionally, Radio One Buffalo has enlisted Ken Johnson as a special advisor. Johnson previously served as program director of WYRK from 1982-1997, giving him extensive experience in Buffalo’s country radio market.

What They Said: “US Country is built around a clear promise: great country music and a station that feels connected to the people who listen. We’re bringing Buffalo country artists and songs that they have been craving, and that you can’t find anywhere else on the radio, locally.” -Buddy Shula

What Remains Unclear: Radio One Buffalo hasn’t detailed its full programming lineup or announced any on-air personalities for US Country. The company also hasn’t specified when the new format will officially debut or whether it plans to add local programming beyond its country music playlist.

What It Means: The launch gives Radio One Buffalo a new opportunity to compete in Buffalo’s country radio market. By leaning on familiar hits from the 1980s through the early 2000s, US Country will target listeners who prefer established country artists and songs. Johnson’s involvement also brings experience from WYRK, a longtime presence in Buffalo country radio. Meanwhile, the move ends the run of 1270 The Patriot, which launched just over a year ago.
