Michael Bennett is taking over afternoons on B101 in Philadelphia. The move follows Bill Tafrow’s retirement after more than 20 years with the station.
What We Know: Bennett will host afternoons from 2-7 PM, replacing Tafrow, who handled the 12-7 PM weekday shift. Meanwhile, Bobby Smith, who co-hosts mornings on B101, will take over the noon-2 PM timeslot. Bennett most recently hosted on The New 96.5 before the station flipped to country music last month. He spent 13 years on the 96.5 signal, working across several formats during his tenure. His move to B101 keeps him in the Philadelphia radio market while giving him a new afternoon home.
What They Said: “Beeyond excited to announce that I’ll now be doing afternoons on one of the most iconic radio stations in the country, B101! This is a dream come true, and I want to thank Romeo for believing in me and giving me this opportunity! The last couple of weeks have been filled with ALL the emotions, and I can’t believe the amount of messages, texts, and DMs I’ve received. Being a part of your day for the past 13+ years has meant everything to me, and I can’t wait to continue that relationship on B101!” -Michael Bennett
What Remains Unclear: B101 hasn’t announced whether the station plans to make additional programming adjustments following Tafrow’s retirement. The station also hasn’t detailed whether Bennett’s afternoon show will carry over any elements from his previous program.
What It Means: Bennett’s appointment gives B101 an established Philadelphia radio personality with more than a decade of local experience. Additionally, the schedule adjustment keeps Smith involved beyond mornings while dividing Tafrow’s former seven-hour shift between two hosts.
