Did Brent Musburger simply retire on Friday when he announced that he would not be back with the Las Vegas Raiders for the 2022 season? Jonas Knox doesn’t think so.
On Monday morning, the FOX Sports Radio host shared his theory that maybe the broadcasting legend was ousted from the radio booth.
Knox pointed to comments Musburger made about former Raiders coach Jon Gruden in December. He told JT the Brick that Gruden was the victim of “a professional hit job.” The league used his racist racist comments from past emails to distract from a larger scandal with the then-Washington Football Team.
“I just wonder if the NFL was upset with Brent Musburger’s comments talking about it being a ‘professional hit job’ and I wonder if they had a conversation with Mark Davis and said ‘What are we doing here? This guy’s coming out this strongly. We’ve got an issue on our hands. There’s a lot of things that could come out,’” Jonas Knox said on 2 Pros and a Cup of Joe.
He also had an answer for anyone quick to dismiss the theory and suggest that age is at the heart of the decision.
“For anyone out there who says ‘Well, he’s 83 years old,’ dude, you hired him when he was 81. What’s the difference?”
Brent Musburger served as the voice of the Las Vegas Raiders for three seasons, beginning with the franchise’s final year in Oakland.
For the record, Musburger never said he was retiring. His tweet on Friday simply said that he would not be back with the Raiders in the upcoming season.
