The WWE and Vince McMahon can spin the story however they want. Most people can connect the dots between accusations of misappropriating company funds to cover up sexual misconduct and the founder and CEO’s sudden retirement.
In discussing the Radio Hall of Fame’s recent announcement that Chris Russo and Suzyn Waldman would be inducted this year, Evan Roberts mentioned Tuesday that Russo and his former partner Mike Francesa may be eligible to be inducted twice since they have not been inducted as a team. He compared it to Triple H being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame and then being inducted again as a member of Degeneration X.
The WFAN afternoon host then joked that Triple H may induct himself a third time now that he is running the company and added “Vince is out!”.
“Listen, don’t use company money to pay off women you slept with. What do you want me to tell ya?” His partner Craig Carton replied. “Use your own money.”
Carton, who is not a wrestling fan, was taken aback when Roberts told him that Vince McMahon said the reason he retired is that he is 77 years old and needs to rest.
The public statement from McMahon is pretty transparent in the eyes of Carton and Roberts. Craig Carton said McMahon is playing dumb.
“Does he not read the newspapers? Cuz even I read it!”
Since announcing his retirement, Vince McMahon has been met with more well-wishes from the wrestling industry than outsiders may have expected given the accusations against him. Very few of those well-wishers have even acknowledged the accusations.
Triple H, who is McMahon’s son-in-law, and his wife Stephanie McMahon will run the WWE alongside Nick Kahn.
Carton was flippant about the end of Vince McMahon’s time in charge of the company.
“Well, it came to an end the only way you knew it was going to come to an end.”
