Greg Hill Congratulates Joe Castiglione On 40 Years With Boston Red Sox

Date:

WEEI’s The Greg Hill Show took time Friday morning to congratulate Joe Castiglione on his 40 years with the Boston Red Sox after the club named the radio booth at Fenway Park for Castiglione Thursday night.

“Congratulations to Joe,” Hill said. “40 years calling games…looks like he’s gonna keep going. There’s no quit in the man.”

Castiglione came to Boston in 1983 after announcing Major League Baseball in Cleveland and Milwaukee. He also previously announced games for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA.
Hill then posited the question of Castiglione’s all-time ranking in the city’s illustrious history of sports announcers.

“Is there anybody with a longer tenure broadcasting in this city? I don’t think so. I don’t know where you rank Joe when you rank broadcasters who have come in and out of here. Whether it’s (former Celtics announcer) Johnny Most or (former Red Sox analyst) Ken ‘The Hawk’ Harrelson.”

Hill then used co-host, Courtney Cox, as a reference point for just how long Castiglione has been in his current position.

“40 years, though. That is a lifetime,” Hill said. “If you think about it, 40 years, that’s the point at which most of Courtney’s generation actually gets off their parent’s payroll,” he joked.
