After the debut of Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime Video last night, 92.3 The Fan morning host Ken Carman predicted more games will become stream exclusives in the future.
“Somebody had to be the guinea pig,” Carman said of the streaming experiment. “At some time, someone’s gonna do it. Now, Fox doesn’t have a streaming service. It’s just Fox. So that means CBS or ESPN. ESPN does have ESPN+ and Disney+ in their family. Someone is just gonna say ‘The game is on Paramount+ and that’s it. That’s where you can find it.’
“We always have these agreements of local TV where, ok if the game is on and Cleveland and Pittsburgh because it’s Cleveland versus Pittsburgh, ok the game may be on KDKA in Pittsburgh and here it will be on News 5. At some point, somebody’s just gonna go ‘You know what? We paid this much money for it and it’s just gonna be on’ — I’m looking at CBS because they’re the one with it — CBS is just gonna go ‘Thing’s on Paramount+. Go get Paramount+ you can get it for free for a month. You wanna watch the Chargers? Paramount+. See ya.’ Someone’s gonna do it.”
The Ken Carman Show with Anthony Lima did point out that the majority of American families do have an Amazon Prime account, which contains a subscription to Amazon Prime Video.
“It’s just boxes every day, and this is the one good thing I get out of it,” Anthony Lima said.
“Mad Dog Russo was upset about the games being on Amazon. Because he’s upset that people can’t find it,” Carman said.
“The guy on satellite radio is upset that somebody can’t find something?”, producer Anthony Aflord said as the two hosts laughed out loud.
