“We shared with some of you earlier today that Steve Portnoy has decided to leave CBS News for a new opportunity. We wish Steve all the best in his future endeavors,” a memo from CBS News Washington D.C. Bureau Chief Mark Lima and Executive of Podcasting & Audio Steve Raizes said in a memo to staffers.

“We are fortunate to have more than a dozen Washington-based reporters who contribute to CBS News Radio and know that we are in good hands in continuing to bring impactful journalism to our audience now and in the future.”

In addition to his role with CBS News Radio, he served as the White House Correspondents Association President in 2021-2022.

Portnoy’s departure is unrelated to the exit of CBS News Radio Vice President and General Manager Craig Swagler. Swagler told employees he was exiting to relocate to Baltimore to live closer to his family.
