FOX Sports has a new ace up their sleeves for MLB telecasts — former St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright. The man the company affectionately called “Waino” in a post on X will commentate a “full slate” of regular season and postseason games, including the first game of the 2024 MLB World Tour: London Series between the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports Wainwright’s schedule will call for him to work about 15 total games, although what the other games will be and who he will work with are still unknown.
“For more than a decade, Adam has been one of baseball’s biggest and most successful stars both on and off the field,” said FOX Sports president of production & operations/executive producer Brad Zager. “His connection not only to fans in St. Louis but really across the entire sport is what makes him a perfect fit at FOX Sports. As he transitions to the next phase of his career, we are looking forward to him entertaining and educating viewers from the booth all season long.”
Wainwright joined FOX colleagues Adam Amin and AJ Pierzynski in the booth for postseason coverage in 2020, 2021, and 2023 and will now be a full-time member of the FOX team. Before this, he pitched 18 seasons for the St. Louis Cardinals, where he finished his career with 2,202 strikeouts – second to only Bob Gibson (3,117) in Cardinals franchise history. Wainwright earned the Roberto Clemente Humanitarian Award in 2020 and was a four-time Cardinals nominee.
“I’m excited to join the FOX Sports family,” Wainwright said. “I love the game of baseball, and I really enjoy talking about the chess match that goes on between the pitcher and the hitter. Hopefully, my experience on the field will allow me the opportunity to share the game I love in a unique and deep way, bringing viewers closer to the game.”
