The Republican National Convention began in Milwaukee Monday with thousands packing Fiserv Forum after quite a run of newsworthy events.
After being shot at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, the classified documents case against former President Donald Trump was dismissed Monday morning after a judge ruled that the appointment of special prosecutor Jack Smith was unconstitutional.
Additionally, Trump made headlines Monday by selecting Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) as his running mate on the Republican Presidential ticket.
After all of that, Trump made a surprise early appearance at the convention, to much fanfare from attendees. He was joined by his new running mate, who was all smiles as he made his way to the convention floor.
With the appointment of J.D. Vance to the Republican presidential ticket, that could potentially open up a Senate seat should the Trump/Vance campaign win the 2024 election. Former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, an Ohio native, told KOA 850’s Mandy Connell that he would “strongly consider” filling the seat if asked by Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine.
On the speaker’s front, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) spoke about the “clear and present danger” to the country. He later said that the teleprompter malfunctioned and loaded an old, outdated version of the speech he was prepared to give.
Additional speakers included entertainer Amber Rose and Teamsters President Sean O’Brien. Both were well received by news media members.
Some news media members are big stars at the Republican National Convention. That includes nationally syndicated radio host and Fox News primetime host Sean Hannity, who was seen tossing Fox News merchandise into the crowd from the network’s makeshift studios.
