Nebraska Athletics has a brand new radio home in the Cornhusker State’s largest city. Walnut Media’s Boomer Radio in Omaha has been named the newest affiliate of the Huskers Radio Network. The station will will now air Nebraska football, men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, baseball, and the nightly program Sports Nightly.
The move marks a significant change in the Omaha market. Boomer Radio replaces SummitMedia’s ESPN 590, which had served as the Huskers’ Omaha affiliate since 2015. Previously, Nebraska games aired on KFAB under iHeartMedia from 1926 to 1996 and again from 2001 to 2015.
“We are honored and excited to serve as the Omaha affiliate of the Husker Sports Network,” said Walnut Media Chairman Steve Seline.
Walnut Media, an Omaha-based, family-owned company, operates five additional stations across the region. In instances of programming conflicts, Husker broadcasts will shift to Christian Talk-formatted 660 KCRO. Moreover, that station will also provide Husker Football-related programming throughout the season.
“The popularity and success of the men’s and women’s sports teams, along with the incredible leadership of the Athletic Department, gives us great hope for the continued growth of the program and the fan base,” said Seline. “As a local, family-owned company, we understand the importance of the Husker Athletic program and are very proud to enter into this partnership.”
University of Nebraska Senior Associate Athletic Director Brandon Meier echoed the enthusiasm. “Nebraska Athletics is proud to partner with Walnut Media to bring Husker Radio programming to the Omaha area,” Meier said. “Their commitment to make all Husker Athletic programming a priority is a tremendous asset to our fans in all sports.”
The new partnership is expected to enhance the reach of Husker Athletics in Omaha and offer fans consistent and dedicated coverage across multiple platforms.
