Eight skiers were killed in an avalanche at Lake Tahoe, and the first identified body was a SiriusXM executive.
Katie Vitt was one of the eight skiers that was killed when an avalanche struck on Tuesday just north of Lake Tahoe.
Vitt served as the Vice President of Product Operations and Customer Success for the satellite radio company. She originally joined SiriusXM in 2021. Prior to joining the company, she worked for more than eight years in leadership roles at Pandora.
California authorities have yet to identify the others killed in the natural disaster. According to a report from the New York Post, a party of nine people — seven women and two men — between the ages of 30 and 55 were in the area when the avalanche was triggered.
Three of those killed were ski guides.
SiriusXM has yet to release a statement about the death of Vitt.
