Cumulus Media Memphis has locked in the Memphis Tigers for years to come. The company announced a extension with the local university.
What We Know: Cumulus Memphis has renewed its deal with Tiger Sports Properties, the Learfield-run local team. The multi-year extension keeps News Talk 98.9 The Roar of Memphis as the exclusive radio home for University of Memphis football, men’s and women’s basketball. Coaches’ shows for football and men’s basketball stay on the station too. The partnership also adds promotional support, weekly features, and fan-access opportunities throughout the year.
What They Said: Morgan D. Bohannon, Vice President/Market Manager of Cumulus Memphis: “We are proud of our partnership with Tiger Sports Properties and the University of Memphis. Being the ‘Home of the Tigers’ is a mutually beneficial partnership full of fast, fun action and filled with passion from the community.”
‘Ditch,’ Program Director for News Talk 98.9: “”I take a lot of pride in our partnership with Learfield and the University of Memphis as the flagship station for the Memphis Tigers Radio Network. Around here, being ‘The Tiger’s Station’ is a really big deal. Newstalk 98.9, The ROAR of Memphis, we carry that title loud and proud.”
What Remains Unclear: Financial terms and length of the extension of the renewal weren’t disclosed.
What It Means: This deal locks in Cumulus Memphis as Memphis Athletics’ flagship voice for the coming season. As the station cements its regional identity around Tiger sports, for advertisers and fans alike, continuity matters most here.
