106.9 KVGQ will launch a new news/talk format in Las Vegas on Tuesday, September 1st. The station will replace its classic hip hop format and 106.9 The Bomb branding.
What We Know: KVGQ will feature a lineup anchored by Glenn Beck, Clay Travis & Buck Sexton, Hugh Hewitt, Mark Levin, Dana Loesch, and Dr. Daliah Wachs. Additionally, the station will feature other national and local talk programming as it moves into the news/talk format. The change will end the station’s run as a classic hip hop outlet under the 106.9 The Bomb identity. Meanwhile, the new format gives Kemp Broadcasting another talk-focused property in the Las Vegas market. The lineup brings several nationally recognized conservative voices to the FM dial, while Wachs adds a local presence to the schedule.
What They Said: “Kemp Broadcasting is excited to bring something different and compelling to the Las Vegas radio market. 106.9 FM KVGQ combines an outstanding lineup of nationally recognized talk personalities and local voices with the strength and reach of FM radio. We believe Las Vegas listeners deserve a talk station of this caliber.” -Kemp Broadcasting Executive Vice President Marty Basch
What Remains Unclear: The company also hasn’t detailed if any additional local voices will join the lineup. Further details could emerge before the September 1st launch.
What It Means: The format change puts KVGQ into a competitive Las Vegas news/talk market with several recognizable national personalities. It’s launch coincides with the end of 840 KXNT, with much of that station’s lineup moving over to K-DAWN. Moreover, the station’s FM signal could help the company reach listeners who prefer spoken-word programming on traditional radio. The addition of Beck, Levin, Travis & Sexton, Loesch, Hewitt, and Wachs gives KVGQ an immediate lineup with established audiences.
