Audacy’s Mix 106.5 Books Intern John for Guest Week

"Radio has a funny way of bringing people together."

Date:

Mix 106.5 is welcoming two former competitors into its morning studio. Intern John and Shelby Sos will co-host with Steve Kramer the week of September 28.

What We Know: The duo spent years on iHeartMedia’s “Your Morning Show,” heard on Hot 99.5 in Washington and Z104.3 in Baltimore. However, iHeartMedia pulled the plug on the program in April. Before that, John rose from the Kane Show to lead the ensemble in 2020. Meanwhile, Sos joined in June 2023 after stints at Power 96.1 Atlanta, Z104.3, and the Kane Show.

What They Said: Kramer admits the booking feels a little unusual. “For years, they were literally our competition,” he said, calling the shared studio time “pretty surreal.” Above all, he’s “excited for Baltimore to hear them again and have some fun with us.” After all, “Radio has a funny way of bringing people together,” Kramer added.

What Remains Unclear: Audacy has not named a permanent partner for Kramer since Jess Dutra left in late August for Las Vegas. Likewise, the station hasn’t said how long the guest rotation will run. So far, former V103 and 92Q morning host Frank Ski and longtime Mix 106.5 host JoJo Girard have each taken a turn. It’s also unclear whether this week could lead to something longer for the pair.

What It Means: The rotation lets Mix 106.5 test on-air chemistry while keeping familiar local voices in the mix. Moreover, it gives Baltimore listeners a reunion with talent they lost in April. For Intern John and Sos, the week offers a welcome return to the market. Ultimately, it proves yesterday’s rivals can become today’s teammates.
