David Ellison Announces Skydance as Name for Merged Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery

"We will honor what makes Paramount and Warner Bros. special — giving both studios the opportunity to grow, tell more great stories and bring those stories to even broader audiences around the world, powered by the scale and capabilities of Skydance."

Date:

Paramount Skydance will adopt the Skydance name when its Warner Bros. Discovery merger closes next week. David Ellison announced the new brand Friday in his first-ever post on X.

What We Know: Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery expect to complete their merger on October 6th. The combined company will operate under the Skydance name, while Paramount and Warner Bros. will retain their individual identities. Ellison said the corporate name will give the merged company its own identity without replacing its major entertainment brands. The announcement comes days before the companies expect to finalize the transaction.

What They Said: “We chose this name for a few important reasons. First and foremost, as we bring Paramount and Warner Bros. together, we wanted to preserve what has made each of these studios iconic. Both have distinct identities, extraordinary legacies and brands that have resonated with audiences for generations. We never wanted a new corporate identity to diminish, alter or overshadow either one.

“Instead, we wanted a name that would give the combined company an identity of its own while allowing Paramount and Warner Bros. — and all our extraordinary brands — to remain in the spotlight. We have big goals for Skydance, and we intend to pursue them with passion, imagination and a willingness to take smart risks. At the same time, we will honor what makes Paramount and Warner Bros. special — giving both studios the opportunity to grow, tell more great stories and bring those stories to even broader audiences around the world, powered by the scale and capabilities of Skydance. I couldn’t be more excited about what we’re going to build together.” -Skydance CEO David Ellison

What Remains Unclear: The companies haven’t detailed how the Skydance branding will appear across their corporate operations. Additionally, the broader leadership structure and integration plans will continue taking shape after the merger closes.

What It Means: The Skydance name gives Ellison a single corporate identity for the combined company while keeping Paramount and Warner Bros. prominent. Meanwhile, the merger will bring the companies’ film, television, streaming, and other entertainment operations under one corporate umbrella.
