What Remains Unclear: ESPN still hasn’t addressed the AltCast’s debut performance publicly. Furthermore, the network continues to withhold standalone ManningCast numbers this season. As a result, a clean comparison between the two AltCasts remains difficult.
What It Means: For McAfee, the debut represents a modest start on football’s biggest weekly stage. Still, his AltCasts have performed better elsewhere, including an average of 1.2 million for January’s College Football Playoff National Championship. Moreover, ESPN plans a McAfee alternate broadcast for its Super Bowl in February. Ultimately, that stage will test whether Field Pass can grow into a true ManningCast complement this season.
