Southwest Florida sports radio lost one of its most beloved voices this weekend. David Moulton, co-host of Miller and Moulton, died Saturday evening at the age of 59.
What We Know: According to his co-host of twenty years, Mark Miller, Moulton died after a six-year fight with stage four renal cell cancer. He and Miller launched Miller and Moulton in 2006, Initially, the show aired on 99.3 ESPN Radio. Later, it expanded statewide, featuring guests from Florida teams and national figures. Moulton also served as a sports anchor on ABC-7, and kept a hand in TV, with NFL coverage on FOX, with the SEC games on CBS. He also worked in the same role for Sirius XM on Mad Dog Radio and NFL Radio. He also was the voice of FGCU athletics and had been a columnist for the Naples Daily News and The News-Press from 2007-2018.
What They Said: Mark Miller (via X): “Last night, my longtime radio partner, David Moulton died. For 20 years, he and I did Miller and Moulton. The only reason my name was first is because Miller and Moulton sounded better than Moulton and Miller. Make no mistake, he was top billing. The three or four hours we spent together Monday – Friday was the most fun you could have “working.” He would always say, “It beats working for a living.” Did it ever!”
Mark Miller (via X): “David was a sports encyclopedia. His recall of games, players and events was unlike any person I have ever come across. I miss everything about what we did together, but mostly the off air stuff, especially the biting sarcasm we shared during commercial breaks. Lastly, we would text one another, along with our long time producer and great friend, John Cassio, when someone famous died. It was just a text with the name and how old they were. David Moulton, 60. Rest easy, my friend”
Julie Moulton (via Fort Myers News Press): “It is with a completely shattered heart broken into a million pieces I share that my loving husband, David, died last night while in hospice care at the Douglas Center for Caring. David battled stage four renal cell cancer for six long years. It metastasized to his bones two years ago. He never stopped fighting or trying new treatments.”
What Remains Unclear: Meanwhile, Moulton’s family has not yet shared funeral or memorial arrangements. Additionally, it remains unclear how the show’s stations will honor Moulton on air. Similarly, Miller has not publicly addressed the show’s future without his co-host.
What It Means: Ultimately, the region loses one of its sharpest and most trusted sports voices. Many praised his insight and his warmth as a husband and father. As a result, his impact on local sports media will long outlast his final broadcast.
