St. John’s men’s basketball is staying on ESPN New York. All 31 regular-season games will stream on the station’s app, with at least 26 airing on its AM signals.
What We Know: Good Karma Sports will once again carry the Red Storm on ESPN New York (880AM / 1050AM). Notably, ESPN resumed regular-season coverage last year, ending an absence dating back to 2006-07. Meanwhile, John Minko returns for his 19th season on play-by-play alongside rotating analysts Brandon Tierney, Vin Parise, Tarik Turner and Brian Mahoney. Coverage tips off November 2 against Monmouth on 1050AM.
What They Said: St. John’s Vice President and Director of Athletics Ed Kull: “We’re thrilled to team up with ESPN Radio once again as we move into the regular season. ESPN Radio New York has been a terrific partner and the feedback from our fanbase has been nothing but positive. We look forward to giving St. John’s fans more opportunities than ever to catch their favorite team in action. Also giving the University increased brand exposure in the world’s largest media market.”
Keith Williams, Senior Vice President and ESPN New York Market Manager: “We’re excited to continue our partnership with St. John’s and bring another season of Red Storm basketball to fans throughout the New York market. With coverage across 880 AM, 1050 AM and the ESPN New York app, we’re making it easy for fans to follow every game while continuing to deliver the local sports programming New Yorkers expect from ESPN New York.”
What Remains Unclear: Terms and financials are unknown.
What It Means: St. John’s arrives as a two-time defending outright Big East regular-season and tournament champion. Consequently, ESPN New York gets a hot product in a crowded market. The Red Storm also play 13 regular-season games at Madison Square Garden, their most since 1950-51.
