Adi Joseph is leaving CBS Sports after nine years. He announced that he’s set to become ESPN’s new Vice President of News.
What We Know: Joseph spent nine years helping build CBS Sports’ digital operation. During that stretch, he worked on CBS Sports HQ from its earliest rehearsals, starting in his second week. Prior to his work at CBS, he served as an editor for USA Today, the Charlotte Observer. At ESPN, he replaces David Kraft as Vice President of News. Kraft announced his retirement earlier this year after 30 years with the company.
What They Said: Adi Joseph (via LinkedIn): “Monday, I’m putting on a new hat, with the four biggest letters in sports: ESPN. I’m replacing the legend David Kraft as Vice President of News at the World Wide Leader. I couldn’t be more excited for the new challenge, where I’ll have a much more directly integrated role in television platforms and work with the people who break so much of the sports news that exists.”
What Remains Unclear: Terms and financials were not disclosed on Joseph’s shift to ESPN. Also, any timeline or replacements for his successor at CBS Sports Digital remains unknown.
What It Means: Ultimately, ESPN is turning to a digital-first leader to run one of its most visible units. Joseph says the role will be more directly integrated with television platforms. Furthermore, he arrives with experience across streaming, social and broadcast integration. That mix could shape how ESPN delivers breaking news across its platforms.
