The Daily Wire Planning to Leave YouTube For Twitter

0

After Tucker Carlson announced he would move his daily television program to Twitter after being dropped by Fox News, The Daily Wire is now reportedly preparing to do the same.

A report from Axios claims The Daily Wire will put its entire slate of video podcasts, which includes some of the largest news podcasts like The Ben Shapiro Show, The Candace Owens Show, The Michael Knowles Show, and The Matt Walsh Show, exclusively to Twitter from YouTube.

In a statement to Axios, Daily Wire CEO Jeremy Boering said Twitter is “the largest free speech platform in the world.”

“If Elon Musk stands by his commitment to make Twitter a home for free speech and delivers on monetization opportunities and more sophisticated analytics for content creators, I imagine we will invest even more into the platform,” continuedBoering said.

The company will begin the transition on Tuesday, May 30th.

The Daily Wire has seen issues with YouTube in recent months. Matt Walsh claimed his YouTube channel had been demonetized after comments he made about transgender TikTok star Dylan Mulvaney.

Like Carlson, The Daily Wire will not have a specific content deal with Twitter. However, the social media platform recently announced it had expanded the length limit of videos for Twitter Blue subscribers. Those utilizing the service will be able to post videos up to two hours in length or 8 gigabytes in size.

Stoney & Jansen on LeBron James Retirement Talk: ‘NBA Needs Offseason Stories’

1

As the Los Angeles Lakers exited the court after being swept by the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals on Monday night, a grim reality set in across the basketball world regarding the future of forward LeBron James. Widely regarded as one of the best players to ever suit up, James is the NBA’s all-time scoring leader, a 19-time All Star selection, four-time MVP, and four-time NBA champion.

During his postgame media availability on Monday, he stated that he had to seriously think about his future, undoubtedly referencing retirement. James just completed his 20th season in the Association and continues to play at a high level, but is going to think about walking away from the game after falling short of the NBA Finals this year.

“He’s been a pretty good soldier for the game,” said Tom Milikan, morning show producer and assistant program director at 97.1 The Ticket. “There’s been some things I haven’t agreed with him [on] that he’s liked or tweeted or whatever. I think he’s had some ignorance, but I think that applies to every single athlete out there that’s great.”

Throughout his NBA career, James has been the subject of criticism. The ESPN special he participated in titled The Decision saw him reveal he would be leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers to join the Miami Heat. He is also a frequent subject across the network’s programming, including on Get Up, First Take and NBA Today.

“I think we pick and choose with him,” Millikan said. “I think I’ve been too hard on him and I’m kind of realizing that.”

Show co-host Mike Stone read messages from the 97.1 The Ticket text line during the show, many of which criticized James for being a “flopping” player desperate for any semblance of attention since he will not be in the NBA Finals. One text suggested his revelation of weighing retirement was done intentionally, surmising that he has a film documentary crew around him and coming back stronger than ever would make for a great story.

“The league needs some offseason stories,” Millikan said. “From what I know, the free agency class is not all that great this year – and one of the big names is Kyrie Irving, and that’s toxic. It’s sort of like, ‘Hey, maybe they’re generating buzz or trying to do the whole Brady thing.’ So be it – I’ve seen it 15 times in my life.”

Stone recognized that athletes like James are genuinely once-in-a-generation type talents, and that his time in the NBA has been defined by more than what he has done on the court. James has also been an immense advocate for greater causes, including social issues, youth education and community affairs. Whenever he decides to call it a career though, fans should rest assured that James has truly given the game everything he has.

“I want to see the best that they have for as long as possible,” show co-host Jon Jansen said of star athletes. “If they end up playing too long, so be it. I don’t care. Then I know I’ve [seen] it all.”

Ian Rapoport: ‘I Would Be Surprised’ If a Thursday Night Game Gets Flexed

0

Is all of the consternation and hand-wringing about flex scheduling much ado about nothing? Ian Rapoport was on with Pat McAfee Tuesday and said despite the NFL owners voting to bring flex scheduling to Thursday Night Football, it isn’t the weekly threat some are making it out to be.

“I would say this from what I know of this, I would still be surprised if any game was flexible,” the NFL Network insider said. “I would be surprised if any game was flexed because they don’t want to use it.”

Flex scheduling in Sunday Night Football is used to create the best matchups in the league’s marquee window. With the option coming to Mondays and Thursdays this season, Rapoport says the bar for justifying moving not just kickoff times, but days, is going to be high.

Thursday Night Football has the most restrictions. The league will have to announce any moves almost a month ahead of when the game actually kicks off. When McAfee pointed to the Pittsburgh Steelers’ visit to New England in Week 14 as a prime candidate to be flexed out of Thursday night, Rapoport outlined a very specific scenario where he could see it happening.

“It’s not going to be like, ‘Well, we have a little bit better game, so maybe we’ll do that,’” he said. “It’s going to be like, ‘Okay, we have Mason Rudolph starting versus Bailey Zappe. Like, no one will watch this. We have to move.’ That’s to me, that’s under the circumstances that you’d see a flex.”

Last season, the matchups for Thursday Night Football were especially bad in some weeks. Al Michaels even made reference to it on the air during games. Having flex scheduling could help to avoid that, but Rapoport says the option is about protecting Amazon in the event circumstances around a game change drastically, not simply placating critics.

“I think basically is the kind of thing where, like, they want it available, but it’s only going to be used if they have literally no other choice.”

Danny Parkins: NFL Teams ‘Don’t Really Care About Your In-Stadium Experience’

0

On Monday at the NFL Owners’ Meetings, flex scheduling for Amazon Prime Video’s presentation of Thursday Night Football was approved 24-8. Games can only be flexed between Weeks 13 and 17 with 28 days notice required. Additionally, a maximum of two games can be flexed per season, with the entire operation being on “a trial basis.”

“In one year of Al Michaels complaining about the games, they’ve changed two huge rules around it,” said Danny Parkins on 670 The Score as the news broke Monday. “[The] first rule already happened, and the Bears are one of the teams that either benefit or are victimized by the rule depending on your interpretation. You can play on multiple Thursdays this year. You can’t play multiple road Thursdays, but the Bears have two Thursday night games – in Washington and home against Carolina.”

In an effort to broadcast compelling action on a national stage, the National Football League did not give all of its 32 teams at least one game on national television this season. Conversely, the New York Jets, complete with star quarterback Aaron Rodgers, will be featured on national television for the maximum of six times, including two matchups on Thursday Night Football. The Jets, along with the Chicago Bears, dissented from voting in favor of flexible scheduling, but Parkins assumes it has nothing to do with the fans.

“My guess is [it is] because they already have two Thursday night games,” Parkins said. “Maybe they’re just altruistic and they care about fans and travel and all that, but I bet you that they said, ‘Well, we’re playing in Week 5 in Washington and Week 10 at home against Carolina. We don’t want to risk Bears-Browns or Bears-Falcons being flexed into Thursday Night Football later in the season and end up with three Thursday night games.’”

Many football fans and media professionals have pushed back on granting the property any type of flex scheduling because of the negative impact it has on injury prevention, something that is not as pronounced with other properties solely because of the day of the week. Sunday Night Football on NBC was previously the only property with flex scheduling ability, and Monday Night Football on ESPN is being granted that ability between Weeks 12 and 17 with at least 12 days notice.

“They don’t really care about your in-stadium experience – they don’t,” Parkins said of the league. “As long as you watch on TV, they’re thrilled because that’s where they make a huge, ungodly percentage of their money – more so than any of the other sports.”

Ford Reverses Course, Keeps AM Radio in New Models

0

In a surprising announcement, Ford has announced it will continue placing AM Radio units in its upcoming models.

Ford will add the AM radio option to the 2023 F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E. Additionally, Ford will not remove AM radios from its upcoming 2024 models with internal combustion engines as previously planned.

“After speaking with policy leaders about the importance of AM broadcast radio as a part of the emergency alert system, we’ve decided to include it on all 2024 Ford & Lincoln vehicles. For any owners of Ford EVs without AM broadcast capability, we’ll offer a software update,” Ford CEO Jim Farley wrote in a tweet.

“Customers can currently listen to AM radio content in a variety of ways in our vehicles –including via streaming – and we will continue to innovate to deliver even better in-vehicle entertainment and emergency notification options in the future. Thanks to our product development and manufacturing teams for their quick response to make this change for our customers.”

The company had previously announced it would not remove AM radios from its commercial fleets due to longstanding contract language.

The news was met with a positive reaction from NAB President and CEO Curtis LeGeyt.

“NAB commends Ford for committing to keep AM radio in their vehicles, which will keep Americans safe and informed, particularly in times of emergency. With tens of millions of listeners, AM radio continues to serve as a vital lifeline to the public and a critical source of community news and exchange of diverse ideas,” LeGeyt said.

“In light of Ford’s announcement, NAB urges other automakers who have removed AM radio from their vehicles to follow Ford’s lead and restore this technology in the interest of listeners and public safety.

“NAB thanks the numerous lawmakers who are leading the charge to keep AM radio in automobiles, particularly the supporters of the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act. Their bipartisan voices are helping to shine a light on the need to keep this critical service. Broadcasters will continue to support this major legislation to ensure consumer access to AM radio in all vehicles.”

Devin McCourty Joining Football Night in America on NBC

1

NBC Sports has enhanced its roster of football analysts with the signing of Devin McCourty. He will join the cast of Football Night in America leading up to each week’s broadcast of Sunday Night Football.

McCourty is a three-time Super Bowl champion and played his entire 13-year career as a defensive back with the New England Patriots, and has the record for most career playoff games started by a defensive player.

“It’s rare when you have the opportunity to add a three-time Super Bowl-winner to your team, and we’re excited to welcome Devin McCourty to Football Night following an incredible NFL career,” said Sam Flood, executive producer and president of production at NBC Sports. “Devin is a leader in every sense of the word, both on and off the field, and his dynamic personality and passion for the game will be a great addition to the show.”

McCourty’s twin brother, Jason, currently works on the cast of NFL Network’s Good Morning Football, and the two co-hosted a podcast together while playing called Double Coverage. Devin was a guest host on Good Morning Football earlier in the season and also contributed to pregame coverage on The NFL Today and NFL Draft content for CBS Sports.

“I’m excited to be a rookie on the best team in America again,” McCourty said in a statement. “I’m very grateful for this opportunity from NBC Sports to learn from great individuals, chase new goals and provide viewers with my thoughts on the biggest games every week.”

Anthony Lima: NBA Ratings Have Become Political Talking Points

0

Ratings matter to networks, but do they matter to the average fan that just wants to watch basketball or hockey? Ken Carman doesn’t think so. He said Tuesday on 92.3 The Fan that the talk is either dismissed or goes right over the audience’s head.

“I don’t think the general fan cares,” the Cleveland morning man said. “I don’t think that anybody in Northeast Ohio who is a basketball fan, like a guy who’s getting ready to go to work who is a 20-something NBA fan, I think they’re just going to watch. I don’t think they care.”

Carman’s partner Anthony Lima admits that he cares about ratings. That has more to do with being in the industry though. He thinks that the emphasis put on ratings in conversations that are not exclusively amongst industry professionals has taken on a largely political tone.

“Certain cable networks tell you not to watch sports because they feel they’ve gone too woke,” he said. “So they will celebrate people not watching sports. Fine, cool. If you get a rise out of that, then awesome for you.”

Ken Carman acknowledged that there are always going to be teams that draw a bigger audience than others. Usually, those are the teams in the biggest markets, but that isn’t always the case.

He pointed to the Green Bay Packers as a reliable ratings driver for the NFL. Superstars help too. The Cleveland Cavaliers were constantly put on national TV when LeBron James was on the team. That didn’t give him any sense of pride in his local team that he didn’t get from them winning and regularly contending for titles.

“It’s a weird galaxy brain thing,” Carman said. “I don’t need the NFL to have higher ratings. I don’t care. I don’t need the NBA to have higher ratings. I don’t care.”

Anthony Lima said he isn’t sure what people who celebrate low ratings are trying to accomplish or even why they are reported at all.

“I always laugh when people kind of rub people’s faces in the low ratings, like ‘Here you go. You guys watch something that wasn’t as watched as something last year.’ Cool. You got me.”

Glen Kuiper: ‘Traits Like Integrity and Character are No Longer Considered’

0

Glen Kuiper is out as the television voice of the Oakland A’s. The team and NBC Sports California made the announcement yesterday following an internal review of an incident on air earlier this month in which the broadcaster appeared the say the n-word on accident.

“Following an internal review, the decision has been made for NBC Sports California to end its relationship with Glen Kuiper, effective immediately,” a spokesperson from the regional sports network said in a statement. “We thank Glen for his dedication to Bay Area baseball over the years.”

Kuiper issued a statement of his own, affirming that what people are calling a racial slur was actually “a very unfortunate mispronunciation.” He said that he was talking to fast in describing a day at the Negro League Museum in Kansas City.

“Please know that racism is in no way a part of me; it never has been and it never will be,” he wrote in a statement shared with reporters. “I appreciate the Negro League Museum president Bob Kendrick and Oakland A’s great Dave Stewart’s public support of me in light of this. I am an honest, caring, kind, honorable, respectful husband and father who would never utter a disparaging word about anybody. Those who know me best know this about me.”

He has been the A’s primary play-by-play voice since 2006. He added that he is astonished NBC did nto consider that before making their final decision.

“I wish that the Oakland A’s and NBC Sports would have taken into consideration my 20-year career, my solid reputation, integrity and character, but in this current environment, traits like integrity and character are no longer considered. I will always have trouble understanding how one mistake in a 20-year broadcasting career is cause for termination, but I know something better is in my future.”

Glen Kuiper closed his remarks by thanking fans and his supporters.

“I love the game of baseball and I love being a broadcaster, and I love the Bay Area community. I hope I will be remembered for that.”

Lawyer for Tucker Carlson Threatens Legal Action Over Newly Launched PAC

0

A newly launched political action committee is urging former Fox News host Tucker Carlson to enter the race for the 2024 Republican Presidential nomination. However, his representation has sent a strong rebuke of the PAC.

“Mr. Carlson will not run for President in 2024 under any circumstances, and therefore your misrepresentations are damaging to Mr. Carlson and defrauding his supporters,” Dhillon wrote in the letter, obtained by The Hill.

“If you do not immediately cease and desist your efforts to solicit money to ‘draft’ Mr. Carlson, we will use every legal means at our disposal to vindicate his rights and protect his supporters from these misrepresentations.”

The PAC was created to urge Carlson to seek the presidency, saying “The Republican Party needs a fresh leader, and Tucker Carlson is prepared to assume that role. Among all individuals in the country, nobody articulates their views more effectively or confronts left-leaning individuals from both major parties as skillfully as Tucker.”

The Draft Tucker PAC had created a 30-second commercial that was slated to begin a weeklong run on conservative cable outlet Newsmax.

After receiving the letter from attorneys for Carlson, the PAC has ceased all activities.

“Tucker’s attorney has contacted us to let us know that Tucker is not a candidate for president nor has any intentions of running and asked us to cease all activities on his behalf. We are going to honor that request,” Charlie Kolean, a spokesperson for the committee, said in a prepared statement.

The report from The Hill claims the PAC had only collected $212 in donations before it ceased operations.
